Avalon mill site
Site where the Avalon mill stood. The building in the picture is the only part that remains of the mill. It was the mill's machine shop/engine room which was located at the back of the mill. The engine room housed the turbines used to power the mill's machinery. I probably took this photo from the flume. Water from the millrace or canal runs through an underground channel--perhaps a large pipe--and over the turbines located in a pit inside the building. After the water leaves the turbines it flows out the rear of the building, into the tailrace, and then into the riverbed a short distance behind the building.Download Full Resolution: (1761 x 1155 pixels) Size: 460 Kb.
