The Avalon Mills Fire.
Twisted rubble from the mill's machinery. With initial plans to rebuild the mill villagers had hope for their village. The scrap metal was sold to the Benjamin Bernstein Foundation of Richmond, VA and a group of teenagers found work in "skinning" brick to be reused in reconstruction. However, the villagers' hope was only temporary. The mill's owners changed their minds and decided against rebuilding and instead the village of Avalon would be dissolved and the houses moved to Mayodan.
