The Avalon Mills Fire.
Employees and their families being kept at bay by the heat of the fire. William Cain Ruffin, treasurer for the mill, was in Wentworth at the time of the fire. He saw the smoke and called Mayodan to find out its source. When he learned the mill was on fire he summoned his auto to take him to the scene "as quickly as possible." Mr. Ruffin's chauffeur is in the foreground wearing a uniform.
