The Avalon Mills Fire.
On June 15, 1911 Jesse G. Seay, a photographer from Leaksvile, was in the village of Avalon photographing grandmother Mandy James and infant Walter Eugene Woods. At the end of the day, Jesse was walking the railroad tracks toward Mayodan when he turned around and saw smoke billowing from the roof of the mill. He quickly set up his camera and proceeded to take pictures.
