Julius J. Vaden
Prior to Avalon, Julius J. Vaden(J.J. Vaden) ran a grist mill on the site of the village. When the construction of Avalon began J.J. Vaden boarded some of the construction workers and was said to have run the hotel for a while. At some point his wife, Angeline E. Vaden became ill and Mary Bell Carter took over the hotel.
